Background: Pain in older adults is an increasing concern in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), with literature suggesting an association with past traumatic events (TEs) in high-income settings. We aim to investigate this relationship in a population-representative sample of older adults with high burden of TEs in a rural South African community.

Methods: The Health and Aging in Africa: A longitudinal Study of an INDEPTH Community in South Africa (HAALSI) study collected data pain intensity, using the Brief Pain Inventory, and TEs with a 16-item questionnaire, from 2411 participants aged 40-79 in 2014-15.

Blood platelets are anucleate cells essential for normal blood hemostasis. To maintain a normal platelet count of 150 000 to 400 000 per μL of blood, 10 platelets must be released each day from precursor cells called megakaryocytes. In this review, we aim to provide an overview of platelet production and evaluate the proposed mechanisms of platelet generation.

Focused ultrasound-mediated opening of the blood-brain barrier offers a great opportunity to deliver therapeutics into hard-to-treat brain tumors such as glioblastoma multiforme or diffuse midline glioma. However, the potential of the technique to offer a time window for efficient nanomedicine delivery has not been thoroughly studied. Non-invasive and targeted delivery of large drug-loaded nanocarriers, such as liposomes, could offer a safe and scalable method of personalized therapy for the treatment of brain pathologies.

Objectives: Neighborhood social cohesion or living in communities characterized by trust and social ties may mitigate sleep disparities among sexual minoritized vs. heterosexual persons; but its relation to sleep health is understudied among sexual minoritized groups. To investigate associations between perceived neighborhood social cohesion and sleep health among adult US men and women who identified as "lesbian or gay, bisexual, or something else," we used cross-sectional National Health Interview Survey data (2013-2018).

Background: Prophylactic total gastrectomy (PTG) is performed in carriers of CDH1 pathogenic and likely pathogenic (P/LP) variants and is becoming more frequent with broader use of germline genetic testing. There is an unmet need to standardize care and enhance outcomes among patients undergoing surgery for the prevention of gastric cancer.

Methods: This was a retrospective analysis of 150 individuals with germline CDH1 P/LP variants who underwent PTG as part of a prospective natural history study from October 2017 to May 2023.
