Radial to Median Sensory Nerve Transfers to Restore Sensate Key Pinch: A Cadaveric Assessment of Size Match and Implications for Transfer.

Background: Loss of key-pinch sensation after median nerve injury poses significant functional detriment. Nerve transfers are utilized to improve function after nerve injury and size matching of donor and recipient nerves is important to optimize success. This anthropometric study investigates the anatomy of the superficial branch of the radial nerve (SBRN) to the thumb and index finger and explores radial to median sensory nerve transfers, a necessary but not heavily discussed facet of nerve transfers for the hand.

The HSP90/R2TP Quaternary Chaperone Scaffolds Assembly of the TSC Complex.

The R2TP chaperone is composed of the RUVBL1/RUVBL2 AAA+ ATPases and two adapter proteins, RPAP3 and PIH1D1. Together with HSP90, it functions in the assembly of macromolecular complexes that are often involved in cell proliferation. Here, proteomic experiments using the isolated PIH domain reveals additional R2TP partners, including the Tuberous Sclerosis Complex (TSC) and many transcriptional complexes.

Evaluation of environmental contamination in beeswax products.

Beeswaxes are used as a coating agent or as a wrapping material for food products making them potentially ingested by consumers. There is no regulation yet in Europe giving maximum levels of contaminants in this type of product. Nevertheless, being a natural product, they are exposed to environmental pollution, thus it appears necessary to establish their contamination rate in order to evaluate potential human exposure.

Determining the Optimal Intramedullary Screw Canal Fill Ratio in Length Unstable Metacarpal Fractures: A Biomechanical Investigation.

Purpose: Intramedullary (IM) screw fixation is gaining popularity in the treatment of metacarpal fractures. Despite its rapid adoption, there is a paucity of evidence regarding parameters to optimize effectiveness. This study aimed to quantify the relationship between stability, IM screw size, and canal fill using a cadaveric model.

Radial Artery Reconstruction After Iatrogenic Cannulation-Related Occlusion: A Case Report.

A 59-year-old male, with a history of angiogram via the left radial artery during the workup for multi-trauma, presented to the hand clinic with a 14-day history of progressive critical ischemia in the left thumb and index finger, along with dry gangrene of the distal index fingertip. Radial artery occlusion was confirmed on imaging. The patient underwent radial artery thrombectomy, arterial reconstruction with vein graft, and amputation of the index fingertip.
