Stroke prevalence amongst sickle cell disease patients in Nigeria: a multi-centre study.

Background: Stroke is a life-changing, debilitating complication of sickle cell disease (SCD). Previous studies had recorded high stroke prevalence amongst this group of patients. Nigeria has a large population of people affected by this condition and this study aims to assess the stroke prevalence in this large population.

Prevalence of parasitemia and associated immunodeficiency among HIV-malaria co-infected adult patients with highly active antiretroviral therapy.

Objective: To investigate the malaria parasitemia, CD4(+) cell counts and some haematological indices among HIV-malaria co-infected adult patients with highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART).

Methods: A total of 342 adult HIV positive subjects were recruited at the consultant outpatient HIV/AIDS clinic, University of Benin Teaching Hospital, Benin City, Nigeria between June 2011 to November 2011. Blood samples were taken for malaria parasite count, CD4(+) cell count and other haematological counts.

Occupational risk factors associated with lymphoid malignancies in Benin City, Nigeria.

Aim: This study is designed to identify the associated occupations most at risk of developing lymphoid malignancies.

Patients And Methods: The medical records of all lymphoid malignancy cases seen in University of Benin Teaching Hospital between July 2001 and June 2010 were retrieved from medical record library. The patient's bio-data, occupational, social and past medical history and pathologic subtypes were extracted.

The epidemiological features of lymphoid malignancies in Benin City, Nigeria: a 15 years study.
