For some time, scholars who are guided by critical theories and perspectives have called out how white supremacist ideologies and systemic racism work to (re)produce societal inequities and educational injustices across science learning contexts in the United States. Given the sociopolitical nature of society, schooling, and science education, it is important to address the racist and settled history of scientific disciplines and science education. To this end, we take an antiracist stance on science teaching and learning and seek to disrupt forms of systemic racism in science classrooms.

This study assessed the usefulness of a mobile decision support system (MDSS) to improve physician ability to recommend proper timing of and intervals for CRC screening and surveillance. This was a binational, single-blinded, randomized clinical trial including gastroenterologists and colorectal surgeons from Argentina and Uruguay.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFAs guidelines for teacher practice, standards and benchmarks serve a strong normative purpose that can work counter to goals of equity and justice. In this project we applied queer theory's critique of normativity and concepts from queer pedagogy to the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) and the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS). Using a collaborative qualitative approach, our research team explored and document how pre-service and practicing teachers addressed issues of learning modality, selection of diverse sources and texts, and applied the meanings of "queer" to suggest ways to disrupt traditional structures and modes of communication, in addition to including LGBTQ identities and gender and sexual diversity in their classes.

Objectives: To describe, evaluate, and identify the characteristics, prognostic factors, and visual outcomes in patients with intraocular foreign body (IOFB) in a Latin American population.
Methods: A retrospective, observational case-series of patients with a diagnosis of IOFB. Variables analyzed included age, gender, initial and final best correct visual acuity (BCVA), ocular trauma score, intraocular pressure, mechanism of injury, material and number of IOFB, zone of injury, timing of primary repair and IOFB removal, complications, and follow up.
