Aims: It is unclear if a supportive bandage, removable splint, or walking cast offers the best outcome following low-risk ankle fractures in children. The aim of this study was to evaluate the feasibility of a randomized controlled trial to compare these treatments.

Methods: Children aged five to 15 years with low-risk ankle fractures were recruited to this feasibility trial from 1 February 2020 to 30 March 2023.

Background: Allogeneic bone marrow transplantation (BMT) may be a curative treatment for patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA), but it has serious risks, including death. It is uncertain whether patients would accept the risks and benefits of BMT and participate in clinical trials. We conducted a discrete choice experiment (DCE) to quantify risk tolerance and benefit-risk trade-offs to inform the design of a clinical trial for BMT.

Article Synopsis
  • Overuse of antibiotics in nursing homes often leads to negative outcomes and the rise of resistant bacteria, prompting the need for better antimicrobial stewardship interventions.
  • This study conducted interviews with prescribing physicians in nursing homes in France to determine factors influencing antibiotic prescribing, resources used, and necessary interventions.
  • Key findings revealed that perceived risks, difficulties in obtaining microbiological samples, and staff shortages contribute to inappropriate prescribing practices, while tailored guidelines and enhanced multidisciplinary communication could improve antibiotic use.

Arthrogryposis multiplex congenita (AMC) is a group of diseases with joint limitations at two or more distinct joint levels at birth. Joint limitations are not progressive, but the functional consequences have a lifelong impact on patients. Article Synopsis
  • Kidney transplantation from HIV-positive donors to HIV-positive recipients is a growing practice, initiated under a 2016 U.S. law, and is currently being evaluated for broader clinical implementation.
  • An observational study involving 408 candidates at 26 U.S. centers assessed the safety and health outcomes of kidney transplants from both HIV-positive and HIV-negative donors to HIV-positive recipients, finding no significant difference in major health risks between the two donor groups.
  • Results indicated similar long-term survival rates, graft success, and complication rates across both groups, although recipients of kidneys from HIV-positive donors showed a higher incidence of HIV breakthrough infections.
