The Eastern Boundary Upwelling Systems (EBUS) sustains some of the most productive marine systems on Earth. Within each of these systems, the upwelling process exhibits spatial and temporal variation resulting in marked differences in upwelling intensity and seasonality along extensive coastlines. The study of this variation is well needed, given the magnitude of the services provided by upwelling, and the impending impacts of global warming on EBUS.

Article Synopsis
  • Porcine respiratory diseases significantly affect pig production, with common pathogens like Streptococcus suis and Pasteurella multocida also posing risks to human health.
  • The overuse of traditional antibiotics has led to antimicrobial resistance, highlighting the need for alternative treatments such as antimicrobial peptides (AMPs).
  • Oreochromicin-2 (Oreoch-2), an AMP from fish, showed promising results in reducing bacterial loads and improving health in pigs, making it a potential candidate for treating respiratory diseases in swine.

Purpose: Our goals were to: 1) examine the occurrence of behavioral and emotional symptoms in children on the autism spectrum in a large national sample, stratifying by sex, and 2) evaluate whether children with increased autism-related social communication deficits also experience more behavioral and emotional problems.

Methods:  Participants (n = 7,998) were from 37 cohorts from the Environmental influences on Child Health Outcomes (ECHO) Program. Cross-sectional information on demographic factors, parent-report of an ASD diagnosis by clinician, Social Responsiveness Scale (SRS) scores, and Child Behavior Checklist (CBCL) scores were obtained for children aged 2.

This article presents 582 bone scan images from 291 adult patients who attended the Nuclear Medicine Service at the Instituto de Investigaciones en Ciencias de la Salud (IICS) of the Universidad Nacional de Asunción (UNA), Paraguay, between 2020 and 2024. The images were acquired using trimodal SPECT-CT-PET equipment, model AnyScan SCP, and the MEDISO brand. Approximately 20 mCi of technetium-99m methylene diphosphonate (Tc-MDP) was administered to each patient, producing whole-body planar images in anterior and posterior projections of the axial and appendicular skeleton with a resolution of 256 × 1024 pixels.

Objective: To compare the spatio-temporal distribution of cutaneous leishmaniasis (CL) cases with mucosal leishmaniasis (ML) cases in the state of Rio de Janeiro (RJ) between 2001 and 2011.

Method: The incidence rates (IR) of CL and ML were calculated for the cases notified between 2001-2011 in the Information System of Notifiable Diseases for Rio de Janeiro (RJ, and for the municipalities of Rio de Janeiro and Angra dos Reis, with georeferencing and construction of thematic maps. A negative binomial regression model was used to assess the temporal dependency between CL and ML.
