Polymyalgia rheumatica and giant cell arteritis can be a medical emergency in which a delay in correct diagnosis and therapeutic management can cause serious complications. With the aim of improving the care of patients with these pathologies in the Community of Madrid, a study was designed to identify the causes and possible solutions to address the problems related to the diagnosis of these pathologies. Article Synopsis
  • - Hyalinizing trabecular tumor (HTT) is a rare benign thyroid tumor that shares features with various types of thyroid cancer, making it difficult to diagnose correctly through fine needle aspiration (FNA) cytology, which could lead to unnecessary surgeries.
  • - The study examined 6 cases of HTT to identify specific cytological characteristics that could help distinguish it from other malignancies and avoid radical surgical interventions.
  • - Key diagnostic indicators for HTT include the presence of hyaline material in FNA specimens, which should not be mistaken for other types of materials like colloid or amyloid, and special staining techniques may assist pathologists in making accurate diagnoses.
