Challenges and opportunities in organ donation after circulatory death.

In recent years, there has been resurgence in donation after circulatory death (DCD). Despite that, the number of organs transplanted from these donors remains low due to concerns about their function and a lack of an objective assessment at the time of donation. This overview examines the current DCD practices and the classification modifications to accommodate regional perspectives.

Demyelinating neuropathy as the initial presentation of familial E200K Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease in two patients.

Objective: To describe peripheral neuropathy associated with familial Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease.

Methods: We report two unrelated patients with genetic Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease with demyelinating peripheral neuropathy as initial presentation, with a comprehensive clinical, electrophysiological and neuropathological description.

Results: Both patients exhibited gait disturbance and paresthesia.

Background: The integrated care for older people (ICOPE) program, developed by the World Health Organization, serves as a public health initiative to maintain older adults' functional abilities and promote healthier aging. Here, we adapted the ICOPE approach to assess overall prevalence of frailty in rural and semi-urban areas. We also investigated health-related quality of life and physical activity and sedentary behavior in older people.

Psychiatric symptoms are common in neurodevelopmental movement disorders, including some types of dystonia. However, research has mainly focused on motor manifestations and underlying circuits. Myoclonus-dystonia is a rare and homogeneous neurodevelopmental condition serving as an illustrative paradigm of childhood-onset dystonias, associated with psychiatric symptoms.
