Perceptions of theatre team members to robotic assisted surgery and the aid of technology in colorectal surgery.

The implementation of robotic assisted surgery (RAS) has brought in a change to the perception and roles of theatre staff, as well as the dynamics of the operative environment and team. This study aims to identify and describe current perceptions of theatre staff in the context of RAS. 12 semi-structured interviews were conducted in a tertiary level university hospital, where RAS is utilised in selected elective settings.

Patient experiences of left-sided colorectal resection by robotic, conventional laparoscopic and open approaches: a qualitative study.

Background: Robotic surgery (RS) is increasingly employed in colorectal surgical practice, widening the range of surgical techniques offered to patients. We investigated the perceptions of patients with colorectal cancer in relation to RS, open surgery (OS) and conventional laparoscopic surgery (CLS), to identify ideas or assumptions which, in the context of shared surgeon-patient decision-making, may affect the resultant choice of surgical technique. We also investigated salient factors affecting patients' perioperative experience, including those of RS patients, to guide improvements in care and preoperative patient preparation.

Thromboprophylaxis in Elderly Surgical Patients: Current State and Future Considerations.

Venous thromboembolism is the number one cause of preventable death for hospital inpatients. Aging general surgical patients are especially susceptible to DVT/PE and this risk increases in the presence of other comorbidities prevalent in the elderly. However, it is often unrecognised and undertreated.

Ovarian carcinosarcoma in a renal transplant recipient. A unique case of a rare tumor.

Introduction: De novo malignancies have become one of the leading causes of late mortality after renal transplantation, with their incidence being 2-15 fold higher than in general population. We present herein a unique case of ovarian carcinosarcoma in a renal transplant recipient.

Case Report: A 69-year-old female renal transplant recipient presented with progressive distension and vague abdominal pain.
