Bridging bench to bedside: The evolution and impact of translational research in oncology. The experience of the Gruppo Oncologico Italiano di Ricerca Clinica (GOIRC).

The Gruppo Oncologico Italiano di Ricerca Clinica (GOIRC) is Italy's first cooperative oncology research group, evolving to conduct academic clinical trials since 1985. With 167 publications and collaborations with national and international partners, GOIRC has significantly impacted clinical practices. The group emphasizes training and has developed robust internal standard operative procedures (SOPs) to enhance data quality.

Upregulation of keratin 15 is required for varicella-zoster virus replication in keratinocytes and is attenuated in the live attenuated vOka vaccine strain.

Varicella-zoster virus (VZV) is the etiological agent of chickenpox and shingles, diseases characterised by epidermal virus replication in skin and mucosa and the formation of blisters. We have previously shown that VZV infection has a profound effect on keratinocyte differentiation, altering the normal pattern of epidermal gene expression. In particular, VZV infection reduces expression of suprabasal keratins 1 and 10 and desmosomal proteins, disrupting epidermal structure to promote expression of a blistering phenotype.

Screening for diabetic retinopathy with artificial intelligence: a real world evaluation.

Aim: Periodic screening for diabetic retinopathy (DR) is effective for preventing blindness. Artificial intelligence (AI) systems could be useful for increasing the screening of DR in diabetic patients. The aim of this study was to compare the performance of the DAIRET system in detecting DR to that of ophthalmologists in a real-world setting.

Contrast-enhanced mammography in the management of breast architectural distortions and avoidance of unnecessary biopsies.

Background: To assess contrast-enhanced mammography (CEM) in the management of BI-RADS3 breast architectural distortions (AD) in digital breast tomosynthesis (DBT).

Methods: We retrospectively reviewed 328 women with 332 ADs detected on DBT between 2017 and 2021 and selected those classified as BI-RADS3 receiving CEM as problem-solving. In CEM recombined images, we evaluated AD's contrast enhancement (CE) according to its presence/absence, type, and size.
