Comparison of two estradiol transdermal systems (Oesclim 50 and Estraderm TTS 50). II. Local skin tolerability.

Objectives: The objectives were to compare the local skin tolerability of a matrix-type estradiol transdermal system, Oesclim 50, with that of the reservoir-type system, Estraderm TTS 50.

Methods: Two randomised studies were performed. In the first study, the modified Draize-Shelanski-Jordan method of sensitization was used in an open, parallel-group trial to compare the cutaneous tolerability of repeated applications of Oesclim 50 with that of Estraderm TTS 50 in 24 healthy postmenopausal women.

Comparison of two estradiol transdermal systems (Oesclim 50 and Estraderm TTS 50). I. Tolerability, adhesion and efficacy.

Objectives: The objectives were to compare the tolerability, adhesion and efficacy of a new matrix-type estradiol transdermal system, Oesclim 50, with those of Estraderm TTS 50, a reservoir-type system.

Methods: This was an open, randomised, parallel-group, multi-centre clinical trial, performed in six European countries. A total of 143 healthy menopausal women were allocated to treatment with Oesclim 50 and 140 to Estraderm TTS 50.

The Fitz-Hugh-Curtis syndrome, an unusual presentation.

The Fitz-Hugh-Curtis syndrome consists of adnexitis combined with perihepatitis. Prompt therapy with adequate antibiotics is required to prevent damaging complications. We describe a young woman with an unusual presentation, leading to initial confusion about the proper diagnosis.

Intracervical anchoring: a new approach to intrauterine contraception.

The intracervical device described in this paper consists of copper wire around a small plastic frame that is anchored to the inner wall of the cervix, at about 1.5 cm from the external os. The device represents a radical departure from conventional intrauterine contraception and 'frameless' IUDs, which are anchored to the uterine fundus.

[Intrauterine insemination in fertility disorders].

The success of intrauterine insemination with in HAM-F10 washed spermatozoa was evaluated during a clinical study of two years, in 32 couples with male infertility, male and female infertility and unexplained infertility. Six women of the 16 treated couples with male infertility achieved pregnancy. In this group no spontaneous pregnancies occurred.
