This 5 year retrospective study presents the clinical experience with preprimed extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) circuits used in a Single Hub Center Hospital, focusing on sterility, functionality, and safety. The ECMO program has been active since 2019, with a total of 223 circuits managed. Our preassembled and preprimed ECMO circuits were stored in a sterile environment and continuously circulated until implantation.

In this study, the adsorption of starburst molecules (CHN, SBM) deposited on Au(111) was investigated by scanning tunneling microscopy (STM). SBM molecules selectively adsorb on the face-centered-cubic regions of Au(111) in quasi one-dimensional chains. Compared with the SBM structure on hBN/Rh(111), the assembly structure of SBM on Au(111) can be clearly confirmed to be molecular chains in the "plug-in" configuration.

Glioblastoma (GBM) is one of the most aggressive cancers, characterized by a decrease in antioxidant levels. Evidence has demonstrated that ferulic acid (FA), a natural antioxidant particularly abundant in vegetables and fruits, could be a promising candidate for GBM treatment. Since FA shows a high instability that compromises its therapeutic application, it has been encapsulated into Nanostructured Lipid Carriers (NLCs) to improve its bioavailability in the brain.

Recently, considerable attention has been focused on the recovery and re-use of waste plant matrices as promising sources of bioactive compounds with health effects. As the Mediterranean diet involves the consumption of great amounts of fruits and vegetables, large quantities of agro-food by-products are generated, causing economic and environmental problems. Such by-products contain a great variety of bioactive compounds whose potential health benefits include anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, anti-- cancer, antimicrobial, hypoglycemic, antidepressant, cardio- and neuro-protective activities.
