Pyruvate kinase (PK), a key ATP-generating enzyme in glycolysis, is a target for novel sickle cell disease (SCD) therapies. Enhancing PK activity lowers 2,3-diphosphyglycerate (2,3-DPG), increases adenosine triphosphate (ATP), and may prevent red blood cell (RBC) sickling. Townes and Berkeley SCD mouse models are commonly used for the development of novel drugs for SCD, but differ from humans in 2,3-DPG and ATP levels, which could be related to underlying differences in PK properties.

Gentrification impacts nearly every major city in the United States, posing a potential threat to lower social class residents' sense of belonging in their neighborhoods. In one survey and three preregistered experiments, we investigated how gentrification affects the belonging of residents across the social class spectrum and how to invest in working-class neighborhoods without undermining lower social class residents' sense of belonging. Studies 1-3 (s = 141, 1,085, and 510, respectively) provided correlational and experimental evidence that lower social class residents feel less belonging than higher social class residents in gentrifying neighborhoods.

The goal of this American Rhinologic Society expert practice statement (EPS) is to summarize the best available evidence regarding postoperative precautions for patients following endoscopic skull base surgery for intradural pathology. These topics include the administration of postoperative nasal hygiene; patient mobilization and activity level; the resumption of continuous positive airway pressure in patients with obstructive sleep apnea; and the timing and capacity with which a patient may be subjected to barotrauma, such as air travel postoperatively. This EPS was developed following the recommended methodology and approval process as previously outlined.
