Helper-component proteinase (HC-Pro), encoded by potyviruses, function as viral suppressors of RNA silencing (VSRs). Despite their conserved role, HC-Pros share approximately 40% similarity, implying potential differences in VSR efficiency, particularly in their ability to inhibit HEN1 methyltransferase activity. This study investigated the inhibitory potential of HC-Pros from different potyviruses in transgenic plants.

Purpose: This minireview discusses desmosome and hemidesmosome disassembly and/or internalization and subsequent release exosomes in retinal pigmented epithelium (RPE) under oxidative stress conditions, and whether it may be a precursor to epithelial-mesenchymal transition in early Age-related Macular Degeneration (AMD).

Methods: Literature review and discussion of novel findings relevant to the focus of the review.

Results: The RPE forms the outer blood-retinal barrier, and like other epithelia it has several different types of cell-cell junctions, such as desmosomes.

Although small molecule inhibitors that target the aberrant signaling pathways and molecular defects of chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) result in improved survival benefits vs. traditional chemoimmunotherapy or chemotherapy, treatment resistance may result later, reflecting the intrinsic tumor heterogeneity, persistence of the leukemic clone, and presence of the tumor microenvironment, which supports the survival of the disease clone. Patients with CLL have immune-related abnormalities in T lymphocyte subset composition, immune synapse formation, and other immune dysregulations.
