Fatal COVID-19 in a neonate after probable late intrauterine transmission.

We report the case of a 35-week gestation infant girl born by emergent cesarean section for fetal distress in a woman with recent coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). Tests for severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) using polymerase chain reaction (PCR) on the infant at 24 and 48 hours of life were negative. However, at 72 hours of life, the infant's respiratory status worsened, and a repeat SARS-CoV-2 PCR was positive.

Efficacy of Levetiracetam and Phenobarbital as First-Line Treatment for Neonatal Seizures.

High neonatal seizure burden is associated with worsened neurodevelopmental outcomes. We compared the efficacy of initial treatment with levetiracetam vs phenobarbital for maintaining low seizure burden in a retrospective cohort of 25 neonates monitored with video electroencephalography (EEG). Video EEG tracing were reviewed and paired with medication bolus times to determine seizure burden after treatment.

The complete cartilaginous framework of the neonatal nose becomes partly and gradually ossified during the years of growth and is more vulnerable to trauma in that period. Injury in the early youth may have large consequences for development of a nasal deformity which will increase during growth and reach its peak during and after the adolescent growth spurt.

Pediatric otorhinolaryngology anno 2008: towards European standards for training?

The Union Européen des Médecins Spécialistes (UEMS) has been promoting harmonization of specialist training programs in Europe. Anticipating a future contribution to a European standard for training specialists for tertiary care of children with otorhinolaryngology (ORL)-related problems this Round Table was organized by ESPO. The presentations refer to six European countries.
