Strategies to reduce the postoperative pain in patients undergoing breast cancer surgery include the use of Interpectoral (PECs) block, first described by Blanco in 2011, but its feasibility and efficacy in everyday clinical practice has been debated. The aim of the study was to evaluate the routine feasibility and effectiveness of PECs block added to general anesthesia to reduce postoperative pain and opioids consumption in the Breast Unit's patients. From June to December 2021 all patients undergoing surgery were included to receive PECs1 block before general anesthesia; clinical and outcome data were prospectively collected.

Association mapping provides useful insights on the genetic architecture of quantitative traits across a large number of unrelated genotypes, which in turn allows an informed choice of the lines to be crossed for a more accurate characterization of major QTLs in a biparental genetic background. In this study, seedlings of 183 durum wheat elite accessions were evaluated in order to identify QTLs for root system architecture (RSA). The QTLs identified were compared with QTLs detected for grain yield and its component traits, plant height and peduncle length measured in a previous study where the same accessions were evaluated in 15 field trials with a broad range of soil moisture availability and productivity (Maccaferri et al.

Mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) sequence variations at hypervariable regions HVI, HVII and HVIII were analysed in 100 unrelated Italians from Bologna. The values of the statistical parameters are in agreement with the range of European populations. We suggest that the less informative HVIII region may be useful to distinguish HVI-HVII identical sequences in forensic analysis especially when nuclear DNA cannot be investigated.
