Young people's power of action in a peripheral community: confrontations and challenges.

This article, based on doctoral research, aims to understand and draw attention to forms of social participation by young people living in a peripheral community on the coast of São Paulo State. It also examines the manners of health production encountered by the subjects themselves, to reveal how young people have approached this in a context of marked inequality. The young study participants were involved in the activities of an NGO and a hip hop group, where the researcher was placed.

Suppression of tumor-derived Semaphorin 7A and genetic ablation of host-derived Semaphorin 7A impairs tumor progression in a murine model of advanced breast carcinoma.

Solid tumors can generate a plethora of neurogenesis-related molecules that enhance their growth and metastasis. Among them, we have identified axonal guidance molecule Semaphorin 7A (SEMA7A) in breast cancer. The goal of this study was to determine the therapeutic effect of suppressing SEMA7A levels in the 4T1 murine model of advanced breast carcinoma.

Bioavailability and dissipation of anthracene from soil with different alkalinity and salinity.

Bioavailability of contaminants, such as anthracene (Anthra), a polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAHs), and their removal from soil has been related to their extractability with non-exhaustive techniques, such as hydroxypropyl-beta-cyclodextrin (HPCD) or n-butanol. Anthra was extracted with HPCD, n-butanol and by exhaustive ultrasonic extraction method from sterilized and unsterilized alkaline soil of the former lake Texcoco, having pH ranging from pH 8.2 to 10.

Actigraphic assessment of sleep in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

Purpose: Previously, sleep in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) has been objectively investigated only by lab-based polysomnography. The main purpose of this study was to evaluate sleep quality in COPD patients in their home environment using actigraphy. We also investigated the factors associated with sleep impairment and the relationship between objective and subjective sleep quality and daytime somnolence in these patients.
