Background: The defective spoken output of persons with aphasia has anomia as a main clinical manifestation. Improving anomia is therefore a main goal of any language treatment.
Aim: This study assessed the effectiveness of a novel, 2-week, rehabilitation protocol (PHOLEXSEM), focused on PHonological, SEmantic, and LExical deficits, aiming at improving lexical retrieval, and, generally, spoken output.
Background And Purpose: Visual rehabilitation is necessary for improving the quality of life of patients with acquired homonymous visual field defects (HVFDs). By modulating brain excitability and plasticity, transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) may accelerate and increase the effects of compensatory trainings, which are usually long and intensive. In the present proof-of-principle, double-blind, randomized, sham-controlled study, we assess whether anodal tDCS applied over ipsilesional occipital or parietal cortices can increase the effects of a compensatory audiovisual training for HVFDs.

Three hundred and seventy-two women and three hundred and seventy-seven men completed a questionnaire assessing body appreciation, body appreciation functionality, body compassion, body image coping strategies (appearance fixing, avoidance, positive rational acceptance), self-acceptance and overall psychological wellbeing. Path analysis showed that avoidance significantly mediated the relationship between body appreciation and overall psychological wellbeing among both women and men; its mediating role was confirmed for men's but not for women's self-acceptance.
