Background: The global inequity in the distribution of COVID-19 vaccines underscores the urgent need for innovative and cost-effective vaccine technologies to address access disparities and implement local manufacturing capabilities. This is essential for achieving and sustaining widespread immunity, and for ensuring timely protection of vulnerable populations during future booster campaigns in lower- middle income countries (LMICs).

COVID-19 vaccine evaluations are mainly focused on antibody analyses, but there is growing interest in measuring the cellular immune responses from the researchers evaluating these vaccines. The cellular responses to several COVID-19 vaccines have been studied using the enzyme-linked immunospot (ELISPOT) assay for IFN-γ. However, the ELISPOT assay is no longer used only for research purpose and so the performance of this assay must be validated.

Objective: To examine elevated PSA follow-up within our system and identify areas for improvement in the timely diagnosis of prostate cancer.

Methods: We queried the Mass General Brigham's Enterprise Data Warehouse from 2018-2021, identifying patients with elevated PSA and documented time to follow-up. Timely follow-up was defined as having a urologist appointment, prostate biopsy, or prostate magnetic resonance imaging within 6 months from diagnosis.

Neo-formed contaminants (NFCs) are common in many foods, especially those subjected to high-temperature processing. Among these contaminants, products arising from the Maillard reaction, sugar reduction, thermal degradation of polyphenols and lipid oxidation, including acrylamide, furan, furfuryl alcohol, and hydroxymethylfurfural, are consistently linked to potential neoplastic effects. NFCs are found in globally traded commodities like coffee and cocoa, posing a significant risk due to their frequent consumption by consumers.

Pulmonary tuberculosis (TB) inflammation is an underestimated disease complication which anti-inflammatory drugs may alleviate. This study explored the potential use of the COX-2 inhibitors acetylsalicylic acid (ASA) and celecoxib in 12 TB patients and 12 healthy controls using a whole-blood ex vivo model where TNFα, PGE2, and LTB4 plasma levels were quantitated by ELISA; we also measured COX-2, 5-LOX, 12-LOX, and 15-LOX gene expression.
