Children with extended oligoarticular and polyarticular juvenile idiopathic arthritis have alterations in B and T follicular cell subsets in peripheral blood and a cytokine profile sustaining B cell activation.

Objectives: The main goal of this study was to characterise the frequency and phenotype of B, T follicular helper (Tfh) and T follicular regulatory (Tfr) cells in peripheral blood and the cytokine environment present in circulation in children with extended oligoarticular juvenile idiopathic arthritis (extended oligo JIA) and polyarticular JIA (poly JIA) when compared with healthy controls, children with persistent oligoarticular JIA (persistent oligo JIA) and adult JIA patients.

Methods: Blood samples were collected from 105 JIA patients (children and adults) and 50 age-matched healthy individuals. The frequency and phenotype of B, Tfh and Tfr cells were evaluated by flow cytometry.

Late Pleistocene megafauna extinction leads to missing pieces of ecological space in a North American mammal community.

The conservation status of large-bodied mammals is dire. Their decline has serious consequences because they have unique ecological roles not replicated by smaller-bodied animals. Here, we use the fossil record of the megafauna extinction at the terminal Pleistocene to explore the consequences of past biodiversity loss.

Design and synthesis of chromone-based monoamine oxidase B inhibitors with improved drug-like properties.

The absence of disease modifying drugs in Parkinson's disease therapy urges for new chemical entities acting on relevant PD-associated biological targets. As a result, developing selective and reversible inhibitors targeting MAO-B is still a desirable line of therapeutic research. Within this framework, a small library of chromone derivatives was synthesized and screened towards human monoamine oxidases.

Use of Cervical Cancer Screening among Patients of Primary Healthcare Services: Northeast Portugal.

Background: Understanding the overuse and underuse of cervical cancer (CC) screening plays a role in preventing such behaviours, allowing to maximize the CC screening uptake.

Aim: To assess the predictors of being over-screened and never/under-screened in CC screening in Northeast Portugal.

Methods: This is a part of a larger cross-sectional survey carried out in two public health centres in Northeast Portugal (October 2017 to June 2018).
