Article Synopsis
  • Referrals for skilled nursing facilities (SNFs) for people with opioid use disorder (OUD) are increasing, with legal guidance emphasizing that these individuals cannot face discrimination in healthcare settings due to their condition or treatment, which highlights the need for proper access to medication for OUD (MOUD).
  • The commentary discusses policies to improve access to MOUD in SNFs, including potential changes to regulations allowing these facilities to administer methadone similarly to hospitals, and advocates for funding mobile substance use services and partnerships with opioid treatment programs (OTPs).
  • It stresses the importance of preparing SNFs to provide continued MOUD for patients, given the rising rates of drug-related overdoses among older

Article Synopsis
  • Homologous Recombination Deficiency (HRD) status is important for predicting how ovarian cancer patients will respond to treatment with PARP inhibitors, and the Myriad myChoiceCDx Assay is an FDA-approved method for assessing this status.
  • In a study of 100 untreated ovarian cancer patients, HRD analysis was conducted using three different commercial panels and compared to the Myriad reference test, showing strong agreement in results.
  • The findings suggest that these commercial tests can reliably assess HRD status and are associated with patient outcomes, indicating their potential for clinical use alongside the Myriad test.

We widely employ microlaryngeal surgery to treat diverse oropharyngeal and laryngeal conditions, but it presents challenges to shared airway management. This case report addresses the limitations of conventional techniques, such as tracheal intubation and jet ventilation, and explores the emerging interest in transnasal humidified rapid insufflation ventilatory exchange (THRIVE). While THRIVE offers advantages such as enhanced visualization and reduced airway trauma, its application is limited by the duration of apnea, with the literature referring to a maximum of 30 minutes of apnea.

DNA double-strand breaks (DSBs) contribute to genome instability, a key feature of cancer. DSBs are mainly repaired by homologous recombination (HR) and non-homologous end-joining (NHEJ). We investigated the role of an isoform of the multifunctional cyclin-dependent kinase 9, CDK9-55, in DNA repair, by generating CDK9-55-knockout HeLa clones (through CRISPR-Cas9), which showed potential HR dysfunction.

Importance: Skilled nursing facilities (SNFs) are being referred more individuals with opioid use disorder (OUD), even when their medical needs are not directly associated with OUD.

Objective: To characterize factors that influence SNF admission for individuals with OUD and identify strategies for providing medications for OUD (MOUD) in SNFs.

Design, Setting, And Participants: In this semistructured qualitative study, interviews were conducted with SNF administrators from 27 SNFs in Rhode Island from November 5, 2021, to April 27, 2022.
