Extremophile organisms have been largely studied in Astrobiology. Among them, two antarctic plants emerge as good candidates to become colonizers of other celestial bodies, such as Mars and the Moon. The Hunga Tonga-Hunga/Hunga-Ha'apai eruption on January 15, 2022 sent off a plume of ash material up to the stratosphere and triggered a meteotsunami and barometric pressure pulse that rippled through the atmosphere and oceans all around the world. The nature of the volcanic event and its global impacts on the oceans, atmosphere, lithosphere and the cryosphere are a matter of debate. Here we present a first overview of the time travel of the sound atmospheric pressure wave through the Antarctic continent based on in situ measurements, which represented a unique event observed through the polar ice sheet during the instrumental meteorological era.

In this study, extraction methods using natural deep eutectic solvents (NADES) were proposed for the determination of arsenic (As), cadmium (Cd), and lead (Pb) in plant and food matrices. NADES are green and sustainable solvents with advantageous chemical properties for such applications. The NADES were prepared with different components, characterized, and applied in ultrasound-assisted extraction (UAE) and microwave-assisted extraction (MAE) methods.

Introduction: Post-COVID-19 condition, or syndrome, also known as long COVID, is an infection-associated chronic condition that can develop after a SARS-CoV-2 infection and last at least 3 months to years. Despite representing a high burden for the Unified Health System (SUS), which has affected millions of Brazilians, it has received limited attention in Brazil. Prevalence studies to date have failed to include a broad representation of the population, and there has been insufficient exploration of the impact on people's lives and the burden of and barriers to accessing health services.

Cushing disease (CD), a rare endocrine disorder characterized by a pituitary adenoma that secretes excess adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH), leads to overproduction of cortisol by the adrenal glands and, depending on severity and duration, manifests with a broad spectrum of clinical signs and symptoms, ranging from classical features to more common conditions seen in the general population. Discovery of molecular and pathogenic mechanisms related to the development of CD tumors has increased in recent years, almost two-thirds of the somatic variants cases have been linked to the USP8 gene, while very rare germline variants in MEN1 and AIP genes have been associated with pituitary adenomas. Variants affecting the RET proto-oncogene, which encodes a receptor tyrosine kinase involved in cell growth and differentiation, are implicated in the development of medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC) and its hereditary form, multiple endocrine neoplasia type 2 (MEN2).
