The Impact of Advanced Medical Therapies on Time to Resection and Colorectal Cancer Outcomes in Ulcerative Colitis Patients Undergoing Colectomy.

Background: We aimed to evaluate the impact of advanced medical therapies (biologicals and small molecules) on time to colectomy and oncological outcomes in UC.

Methods: This cohort study included UC patients who underwent colectomy between 2003 and 2022 at two referral centres in Belgium and the Netherlands. Exposure was use of advanced medical therapies.

Diagnosing Crohn's Disease in Presumed Cryptoglandular Perianal Fistulas: An Expert Delphi Consensus on Early Identification of Patients at Risk of Crohn's Disease in Perianal Fistulas (PREFAB).

Background: The aim of this Delphi study was to reach consensus on a new clinical decision tool to help identify or exclude Crohn's disease (CD) in patients with perianal fistula(s) (PAF).

Methods: A panel of international experts in the field of proctology/Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) were invited to participate. In the first round (electronic survey), participants were asked to anonymously provide their opinion probing 1) the relevance and use of clinical characteristics suggestive of underlying CD, 2) the use of faecal calprotectin (FCP) for screening for CD and 3) on the diagnostic work-up for CD in PAF patients with raised clinical suspicion.

Clinical relevance of calprotectin in patients with perianal fistulas in Crohn's disease and cryptoglandular fistulas.

Background And Aims: Previous literature suggests that faecal calprotectin (FC) discriminates Crohn's disease perianal fistulas from cryptoglandular fistulas, irrespective of luminal disease. This study aims to prospectively validate this and analyse if increased local fistula calprotectin levels are associated with fistula characteristics.

Methods: In this prospective study, all consecutive patients with an active perianal fistula undergoing examination under anaesthesia were included.

Improving Enhanced Recovery after Surgery (ERAS): The Effect of a Patient-Centred Mobile Application and an Activity Tracker on Patient Engagement in Colorectal Surgery.

Background: The Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) protocol improved perioperative colorectal care. Although the protocol is firmly implemented across hospital settings, there are benefits to gain by actively involving patients in their recovery. The main objective of this study was to investigate whether compliance with selected items in the ERAS protocol could further improve by using a patient-centred mobile application.
