Coexistent hereditary haemorrhagic telangiectasia and primary thrombocythaemia--coincidence or syndrome?

Two patients with coexistent hereditary haemorrhagic telangiectasia (HHT) and primary thrombocythaemia (PT) are presented. In one of them, both diseases were detected at the same time. In the other, signs of HHT were present 20 years prior to the diagnosis of PT.

Insulin-requiring diabetes mellitus of sixty years' duration without significant late manifestations.

The report concerns a man with onset of diabetes in 1921 and treated with insulin since 1922. In 1981, at the age of 75, he is in excellent health, with no signs of significant diabetic organ injuries. Among other factors, this benign course may be due to retention, until now, of some endogenous insulin production.

Anticoagulant vs anti-platelet therapy as prophylactic against cerebral infarction in transient ischemic attacks.

156 patients with transient ischemic attacks (TIA) or reversible ischemic neurological deficit (RIND) were given prophylactic anticoagulant (AC) treatment against cerebral infarction in a prospective multicenter study from 5 hospitals in southern Sweden. After 2 months of AC treatment, 135 patients remained in the study and were randomized into 2 groups; one continued with AC treatment and one changed to anti-platelet therapy. The patients were followed for 12 months.
