Background: Canine aural cholesteatoma (more appropriately named tympanokeratoma) is an epidermoid cyst whose aetiopathogenesis remains poorly recognised in veterinary medicine. There are a few reports published, possibly because it may be underdiagnosed.

Objectives: To characterise the clinical aspects of dogs with tympanokeratoma, to describe the otoendoscopic, advanced imaging and histopathological findings of tympanokeratoma and to report the best approach to diagnose canine auricular tympanokeratoma in a retrospective study.

Phloroglucinol (PL) or 1,3,5-trihydroxybenzene is a phenolic compound used therapeutically for its antispasmodic properties. However, an overdose or prolonged exposure to PL can have harmful effects on human health. This work describes for the first time the development of a photoelectrochemical (PEC) sensor to determine PL.

The metalloids arsenic (As) and antimony (Sb) belong to the pnictogen group of the periodic table; they share many characteristics, including their toxic and carcinogenic properties; and rank as high-priority pollutants in the United States and the European Union. Adsorption is one of the most effective techniques for removing both elements and desorption, for further reuse, is a part of the process to make adsorption more sustainable and feasible. This review presents the current state of knowledge on arsenic and antimony desorption from exhausted adsorbents previously used in water treatment, that has been reported in the literature.

Objectives: An Escherichia coli isolate, WGS1363, showed resistance to piperacillin/tazobactam but susceptibility to cephalosporins and contained a previously unrecognized β-lactamase, CTX-M-255, as the only acquired β-lactamase. CTX-M-255 was identical to CTX-M-27 except for a G239S substitution. Here, we characterize the hydrolytic spectrum of CTX-M-255 and a previously reported β-lactamase, CTX-M-178, also containing a G239S substitution and compare it to their respective parental enzymes, CTX-M-27 and CTX-M-15.
