Primary Hyperparathyroidism in Sickle Cell Disease: An Unknown Complication of the Disease in Adulthood.

Primary hyperparathyroidism (pHPT) is the third most common endocrine disorder and usually affects patients between 60 and 70 years of age. To our knowledge, this condition has never been studied in young patients with sickle cell disease (SCD). Our objective was to describe the clinical and biological characteristics of pHPT in adult patients with SCD and its management.

[Use of pocket-sized ultrasound in internal medicine (hospitalist) practice: Feedback and perspectives].

Introduction: Point of care ultrasound (POCUS) is routinely used by intensivists and emergency physicians for many years. Its interest is not arguable any more for these specialists, despite the large variety of diseases they care. Hospitalists and internists also should find some interest in POCUS, which convenience and wide range of indications responds well to the variety of their practice.

Epidemiology and Characteristics of Kikuchi-Fujimoto Disease in the African-Descent Population of Martinique, French West Indies.

Objective: To provide an epidemiologic description of Kikuchi-Fujimoto disease (KFD), and to describe its relationship with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) in a population of sub-Saharan origin.

Methods: Patients were retrospectively included on the basis of lymph node histology compatible with KFD reported in Martinique from 1991 until 2013. In order to describe the characteristics of the disease in a larger cohort, we subsequently included more patients of Afro-Caribbean origin from Guadeloupe and French Guiana.

[Retrobulbar optic neuropathy and non-Hodgkin lymphoma].

Introduction: Non-Hodgkin lymphomas (NHLs) constitute a group of heterogeneous diseases that can arise in lymphatic nodal or extranodal sites. Ocular lymphomas account for 1% of all NHLs. Tumor of the orbit, which can lead to compression of the optic nerve, is the most frequent presentation of the disease.
