Importance: Electrographic seizures (ESz) are seizures without prominent motor activity diagnosed with electroencephalogram and are a common complication in critically ill patients with alterations of consciousness. Previous studies suggested clinical signs, including ocular movement abnormalities, facial/periorbital twitching, or remote seizure risk factors, are sensitive for presence of ESz.

Objectives: To assess the utility of clinical features in identifying ESz in critically ill patients with alterations of consciousness.

Objective: To assess the experience of families and clinicians at a long term acute care hospital (LTACH) after implementing a written communication intervention.

Methods: Written communication templates were developed for six clinical disciplines. LTACH clinicians used templates to describe the condition of 30 mechanically ventilated patients at up to three time points.

Background: The objective of this study was to determine the prevalence of pyridoxine deficiency, measured by pyridoxal phosphate (PLP) levels, in patients admitted to the hospital with established (benzodiazepine-resistant) status epilepticus (SE) (eSE) and to compare to three control groups: intensive care unit (ICU) patients without SE (ICU-noSE), non-ICU inpatients without SE (non-ICU), and outpatients with or without a history of epilepsy (outpatient).

Methods: This retrospective cohort study was conducted at the University of North Carolina Hospitals and Yale New Haven Hospital. Participants included inpatients and outpatients who had serum PLP levels measured during clinical care between January 2018 and March 2021.

Tools to measure lung and airways volume are critical for pulmonary researchers interested in evaluating the impact of disease or novel therapies on the lung. Barometric plethysmography is a classic technique to evaluate the lung volume with a long history of clinical use. Volumetric capnography utilizes the profile of exhaled carbon dioxide to determine the volume of the conducting airways, or dead space, and provides an index of airways homogeneity.

We explored the feasibility of using school personnel as reporters to examine the relationship between the level of adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) exposure in a nonclinical sample of public elementary schoolchildren and academic risk. We selected a random sample of 2,101 children from kindergarten through 6th grade classroom rosters at 10 elementary schools. Students were 50% male, 78% White, and 55% free and reduced meal program participants.
