Tissue Plasminogen Activator (tPA) Use in Persistent Loculated Ascites.

Spontaneous bacterial peritonitis (SBP) complicated by loculated ascites presents a therapeutic challenge, particularly when standard of care or surgical intervention is not feasible. This case report documents the successful use of intraperitoneal tissue plasminogen activator (tPA) as adjunctive salvage therapy in an adult female with decompensated liver cirrhosis and loculated infected ascites. After no improvement in the patient's clinical condition following 14 days of intravenous antibiotics, catheter-directed intraperitoneal tPA was administered for three days, resulting in the improvement of her abdominal pain and resolution of the loculations.

Role of procedure-specific consent forms in clinical practice: a systematic review.

Introduction: Consent forms play an active role in the consent process with generic, handwritten consent forms (GCF) often the standard across the National Health Service. Increasingly, procedure-specific consent forms (PSCF) are being used as an alternative. However, concerns remain about whether they meet the standard for consent.

Two-Year Outcomes of Prostatic Artery Embolization for Symptomatic Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia: An International, Multicenter, Prospective Study.

Purpose: To describe clinical outcomes among patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) 24 months following prostatic artery embolization (PAE).

Materials And Methods: This was an international, multicenter, prospective trial of males with BPH with lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) or acute urinary retention (AUR) treated with PAE. The primary outcome was the 12 month change in the International Prostate Symptom Score (IPSS) for patients referred for bothersome LUTS, or urinary catheter independence for patients treated for AUR.

Interval cholecystectomy following drainage procedures for acute cholecystitis: percutaneous transhepatic vs endoscopic transpapillary gallbladder drainage.

Background: Gallbladder drainage procedures are often considered for acute cholecystitis (AC) patients with significant peri-operative risks. While percutaneous transhepatic gallbladder drainage (PTGBD) has been evaluated in previous studies, there is scarce data on the feasibility and efficacy of endoscopic transpapillary gallbladder stenting (ETGBS) in patients with AC. This study aimed to compare the characteristics of interval cholecystectomy following ETGBS and PTGBD.
