Prevention of rt-PA induced blood-brain barrier component degradation by the poly(ADP-ribose)polymerase inhibitor PJ34 after ischemic stroke in mice.

Recombinant tissue plasminogen activator (rt-PA) is the only pharmacological treatment approved for thrombolysis in patients suffering from ischemic stroke, but its administration aggravates the risk of hemorrhagic transformations. Experimental data demonstrated that rt-PA increases the activity of poly(ADP-ribose)polymerase (PARP). The aim of the present study was to investigate whether PJ34, a potent (PARP) inhibitor, protects the blood-brain barrier components from rt-PA toxicity.

Paranasal sinus cancer.

Paranasal sinus cancers are rare, aggressive tumours that are usually diagnosed at an advanced stage. They differ from other upper aerodigestive tract tumours in terms of risk factors (wood dust exposure) and premalignant lesions (inverted papillomas). The diagnosis should be suspected in the presence of unilateral and continuous nasal sinus symptoms or bone lysis or a heterogeneous opacity on imaging.

Predictive factors for lateral occult lymph node metastasis in papillary thyroid carcinoma.

Management of lateral no necks in papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) is very controversial. The aim of this study was to find predictive factors of lateral neck involvement in N0 PTC to help the clinician in his decision to treat the lateral compartment. We retrospectively analysed 173 patients who underwent thyroidectomy and lateral prophylactic neck dissection for PTC >10 mm.

Pattern of lateral neck metastases in N0 papillary thyroid carcinoma.

Background: Indication and extent of lateral prophylactic neck dissection (PLND) in papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) is very controversial.

Methods: We retrospectively analysed 131 patients who underwent thyroidectomy and prophylactic lateral neck dissection from level II to V for PTC.

Results: 140 PLND were performed.
