Computational hemodynamic pathophysiology of internal carotid artery blister aneurysms.

Objective: Blister aneurysms of the internal carotid artery (ICA) are rare and are primarily documented in the literature through small series and case reports. The intraoperative observation of a hemorrhage in the artery wall proximal to the aneurysmal bulge led to the hypothesis that some of these aneurysms might develop in a retrograde manner.

Methods: We developed software to reconstruct the ICA with and without Type I and II blister aneurysms using patients' imagery as input to simulate hemodynamic conditions before and after their formation.

Dysbiotic microbiota contributes to the extent of acute myocardial infarction in rats.

Increasing evidence suggests that the intestinal microbiota composition could play a role in specific pathologies such as hypertension, obesity and diabetes. This study aims to demonstrate that the intestinal microbiota modulated by a diet creating dysbiosis increased the size of the myocardial infarction and that probiotics could attenuate this effect. To do this, microbiota transplants from rats fed a dysbiotic or non-dysbiotic diet in the presence or absence of probiotics were performed for 10 days on rats whose microbiota had been previously suppressed by antibiotic therapy.

Assessment of conversational pragmatics: A screening tool for pragmatic language impairment in a control population of children aged 6-12 years.

Pragmatics can be defined as the way in which language is used to communicate in a given social context. Although there is a lack of a standardized assessment, healthcare professionals find themselves confronted with pragmatic language skill impairments in children with neurodevelopmental disorders or brain injuries. The characterization of language use causes problems in social interactions, which has clinical implications in daily life.

Identifying diagonal cutter marks on thin wires using 3D imaging.

We present work on matching 2-mm-thick wires using optical 3D imaging methods. Marks on such small surfaces are difficult to match using a comparison microscope as this 2D imaging method does not provide height data about the sample surface. Moreover, these 2D microscopy images may be affected by illumination.
