Comparing stress and arousal systems in response to different social contexts in children with ASD.

Response to psychological stress can vary based on the extent to which the context is perceived as stressful, especially under different social conditions. The purpose of this preliminary study was to compare physiological stress (cortisol) and regulation (respiratory sinus arrhythmia, RSA) of 10-12 year old children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD, n = 31) or typical development (TD, n = 25) when exposed to two social stress protocols. The extent to which perceived emotion (affect recognition) and anxiety (state and trait) mediate the stress response was also explored.

The term refeeding syndrome (RFS) refers to the metabolic perturbations and its attendant complications in subjects who are refed after fasting. The syndrome is characterized by profound shifts of electrolytes and fluids. Its consequences are widespread and sometimes fatal.

Complications associated with the use of Port-a-Caths in patients with malignant or haematological disease: a single-centre prospective analysis.

Totally implantable central venous catheters are widely used in the management of patients with haematological or malignant disease. This paper investigates device-related complications and compares it with the literature. A total of 143 Port-a-Caths (PaCs) were implanted in 140 patients at a single centre during 2004 and followed until March 2005.

Long-term results of dose density therapy in patients with aggressive lymphoma.

To evaluate the long-term outcome of dose density chemotherapy in the treatment of aggressive lymphoma, we analyzed 142 patients with untreated aggressive lymphoma. Chemotherapy was an eight-drug regimen given in weekly intervals in two prospective trials. The median observation period was 8 years; the longest follow-up was 13 years.

This multicenter randomized phase III study was designed to compare the efficacy and toxicity of IFN alpha-2c (3.5 MU/d) in combination with either araC (10 mg/m(2) d1-10) or hydroxyurea (HU: 25 mg/kg per day) in newly diagnosed CML patients. A total of 114 patients were randomized.
