Background: Veno-occlusive disease (VOD) and transplant-associated thrombotic microangiopathy (TA-TMA) remain a diagnostic and therapeutic challenge for patients undergoing hematopoietic stem cell transplant (HSCT). Both VOD and TA-TMA share an underlying etiology of microvascular endothelial damage. Potential under-recognition of TA-TMA in the context of VOD leaves HSCT recipients vulnerable to additional endothelial damage, and risk of end-organ failure.

Canine-assisted interactions (CAIs) have been explored to offer therapeutic benefits to human participants in various contexts, from addressing cancer-related fatigue to treating post-traumatic stress disorder. Despite their widespread adoption, there are still unresolved questions regarding the outcomes for both humans and animals involved in these interactions. Previous attempts to address these questions have suffered from core methodological weaknesses, especially due to absence of tools for an efficient objective evaluation and lack of focus on the canine perspective.

Background: Application of helium-based plasma radiofrequency (RF; Renuvion, Apyx Medical, Clearwater, FL) in the subcutaneous plane results in tissue coagulation and contraction. Although, traditionally, the impact of thermal devices on skin laxity is assessed by measuring changes in skin surface area, this indirect measure does not permit intraoperative assessment or differentiation of effects from various treatments.

Objectives: To determine the amount of soft tissue contraction achieved by multiple passes of helium plasma RF energy to the subcutaneous connective tissues following power-assisted liposuction (PAL).

The orientation and function of smooth muscle in the cervix may contribute to the important biomechanical properties that change during pregnancy. Thus, this study examined the three-dimensional structure, smooth muscle phenotype, and mechanical and contractile functions of the upper and lower cervix of nongravid (not pregnant) and gravid (pregnant) mice. In gravid cervix, we uncovered region-specific changes in the structure and organization of fiber tracts.
