Background: RH1 is one of the most clinically important blood group antigens in the field of transfusion and prevention of fetomaternal incompatibilities. New variant RHD alleles are regularly identified and their characterization is essential to ensuring patient safety.
Study Design And Methods: Blood samples with uncertain RhD phenotypes not resolved by our first-line SNaPshot assay were sequenced for all 10 RHD exons.
We performed a prospective, randomized, open, blinded end point (PROBE) study to assess the efficiency of transfusing high doses of platelets in patients with thrombocytopenia, either acute leukemia (AL) or those undergoing autologous hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (AT). Patients were randomly assigned to receive transfusions with a target dose of 0.5 x 10(11)/10 kg (arm A) or 1 x 10(11)/10 kg (arm B).

Some 745 standard red cell concentrates (RBC concentrates) and 690 concentrates previously white cell (WBC)-reduced by removal of buffy coat (BC-poor RBC concentrates) were filtered using six commercially available filters: at least 170 results were collected per filter, spread among a minimum of three teams. Prefiltration controls show that the removal (manual and automated) of the buffy coat results in an initial WBC reduction of approximately 63 percent, along with a hemoglobin loss of 4 g (7%).

By flow cytometry analysis, there are not false negative result, but, because of cross reactions of the used monoclonal antibody with other specificities of the CREG B7 group, false positive result may be encountered. The flow cytometry analysis for typing HLA B27 antigens using a monoclonal antibody can be a good screening technique: so it's rapid and moreover the negative results can be accepted.

When compared with the American anthropometric norms (HANES I & II), we noted that: (1) the percentiles distribution values of W/H2 were nearly identical; (2) the age and sex-related values of TSF were lower in our study (p < 0.003); (3) our percentiles distribution values of MAC were lower in our study (p < 0.
