Systemic treatment among frail older patients with cancer: An observational cohort.

Introduction: In the past, certain oncological therapies were not offered to frail older patients. However, the advancement of geriatric oncology, tailored chemotherapy regimens, the introduction of new treatments, and the optimization of supportive care have contributed to enhancing the therapeutic margin. We aimed to evaluate the benefit of systemic treatment among older adults by assessing the three-month survival of older frail patients with metastatic cancer.

Background And Objective: Laryngeal Cancer (LC) constitutes approximately one third of head and neck cancers. Detecting early-stage lesions in this anatomical region is crucial for achieving a high survival rate. However, it poses significant diagnostic challenges owing to the varied appearance of lesions and the need for precise characterization for appropriate clinical management.

Pathogenesis of Sjögren's disease: one year in review 2024.

The pathogenesis of Sjögren's disease (SjD) is still elusive; however, the disease is widely recognised as a multistep disorder triggered by the interplay of environmental, hormonal and genetic factors. Innate immune system plays a crucial role in the initiation of the inflammatory process, but the amplification and the perpetuation of the autoimmune process require a continual interaction between the innate and adaptive immune systems. Several important contributions elucidating SjD pathogenesis have been recently published due to emerging technologies.

Sjögren's disease and systemic lupus erythematosus overlap syndrome as distinct entity at crossroads of two autoimmune disorders: clinical characterisation from two Italian reference centres for both the diseases.

Objectives: To characterise the overlap syndrome between Sjögren's disease (SjD) and systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE).

Methods: Consecutive patients clinically defined as affected by SjD and SLE overlap syndrome (SjD-SLE), belonging to two Italian rheumatology centres were classified following the application of both the SjD and SLE classification criteria. Clinical, functional, ultrasound and histological data were compared with patients suffering from only SjD or SLE.

The clinical phenotype of isolated ocular or oral dryness in Sjögren's disease.

Objectives: To assess if isolated mouth or eye dryness constitutes distinct clinical phenotypes in Sjögren's disease (SjD).

Methods: We analysed 1765 patients meeting the 2016 ACR-EULAR SjD criteria, followed up at four centres in Greece and Italy (Universities of Pisa, Italy, and Athens, Harokopion, and Ioannina, Greece). Patients with isolated mouth or eye dryness were identified and matched 1:2 with those experiencing both symptoms, according to age at SjD diagnosis, gender, and disease duration.
