Fungal polysaccharides can exert immunomodulating activity by triggering pattern recognition receptors (PRRs) on innate immune cells such as macrophages. Here, we evaluate six polysaccharides isolated from the medicinal fungus Inonotus obliquus for their ability to activate mouse and human macrophages. We identify two water-soluble polysaccharides, AcF1 and AcF3, being able to trigger several critical antitumor functions of macrophages.

To address the need for vaccines that induce strong and persistent cross-reactive neutralizing antibodies and T cell responses, we developed a prophylactic SARS-CoV-2 vaccine candidate based on our easily and rapidly adaptable plasmid DNA vaccine platform. The vaccine candidate, referred to here as VB2129, encodes a protein homodimer consisting of the receptor binding domain (RBD) from lineage B.

However, the structure and biological effects of its polysaccharides (PSs) are unclear. This study investigates the structural features of a PS complex from MP (MP-PSC), its immunomodulatory activities and effects on probiotic and pathogenic bacteria.
