Diversity, community engagement and co-design in research: a rapid review.

There is increasing recognition in the field of health and social care research that community-engaged methods should include patients and the public throughout the research process. Therefore, individuals from all backgrounds should be involved in the research. We explored the public and patient engagement experience in research and how researchers and community groups can work together to make the research process more inclusive and sustainable.

Post-operative periprosthetic femoral fractures in England: Patient profiles and short-term outcomes.

Background And Objective: Post-operative periprosthetic femoral fractures (POPFF) present a growing challenge for healthcare services, but there are limited national data on patient profiles, short-term outcomes, and post-discharge follow-up. We aimed to fill these gaps.

Methods: Using Hospital Episode Statistics (HES), we identified POPFF discharges from hospitals in England for patients aged 18 and above between April 2016 and December 2022.

Regional anaesthesia research priorities: a Regional Anaesthesia UK (RA-UK) priority setting partnership involving patients, carers and healthcare professionals.

Introduction: Regional anaesthesia provides important clinical benefits to patients but is underutilised. A barrier to widespread adoption may be the focus of regional anaesthesia research on novel techniques rather than evaluating and optimising existing approaches. Research priorities in regional anaesthesia identified by anaesthetists have been published, but the views of patients, carers and other healthcare professionals have not been considered previously.

A Narrative Review of Pain in Pediatric Oncology: The Opioid Option for Procedural and Surgical Pain.

This narrative review examines the evolving role of opioids in managing procedural and surgical pain in pediatric oncology patients. The review evaluates studies on opioid use across various oncological surgeries including thoracic, abdominal, orthopedic, and neurosurgical procedures, as well as for common painful procedures such as bone marrow aspirations and lumbar punctures. While opioids remain important for acute procedural and postoperative pain management in pediatric oncology patients, there is an increasing emphasis on multimodal, opioid-sparing approaches.
