Introduction: Depression is a pervasive mental health condition that affects individuals across various demographic categories, including imprisoned adults. The prevalence of mental health problems among inmates worldwide is considerably higher than in the general population, and it is estimated that 11% of inmates have significant mental disorders, such as anxiety and depression. This study aimed to find out the prevalence of depression and factors associated with it among the prisoners of Gandaki Province, Nepal.

Article Synopsis
  • Rice blast and bacterial leaf blight (BLB) significantly impact rice yields globally, causing losses of 20-50%, especially in regions like India with severe infections.* -
  • The study involves the improved rice line TH-625-491, which carries multiple resistance genes against BLB and blast; these were validated and backcrossed to enhance resistance traits.* -
  • Findings suggest a potential antagonistic effect between genes for bacterial blight and blast resistance, as certain gene combinations exhibited better resistance to blast alone compared to those including both types of resistance.*

Carbon dot (CD)-based fluorimetric sensors have attracted immense attention for the detection of metal ions. Among the available works in this direction, more than 70% of the studies reported the detection of Fe through luminescence quenching. Ferric ions are significant species from environmental and biological point of view.

Carbon nanodots, the luminescent nanoparticles of carbon with size restriction below 10 nm, have attracted inordinate attention in materials science due to their widespread applications in optoelectronic and biological fields. Low toxicity and facile synthesis pathways render them favourites in the above-mentioned areas in the context of green chemistry. This work presents fine applications of -phenylenediamine-derived carbon nanodots (PD-CNDs) achieved a facile one-pot hydrothermal method.
