Objectives: To translate and validate a urinary incontinence-specific measure of quality of life (I-QOL) in French, Spanish, Swedish, and German and provide translations only into seven other languages and variants of these languages.
Methods: Quality of life and linguistic experts prepared two forward translations from American English to their native languages and helped to harmonize these translations at a meeting. In the four European countries, the adapted versions of the I-QOL were administered to 259 women with stress, urge, and mixed incontinence.
Objective: The objective of this study was to develop a valid and reliable health-related quality of life (HRQOL) questionnaire for use in multinational clinical trials of patients with type I and type II diabetes.
Methods: Through patient focus groups and expert clinician panels in the United States (US) and France, relevant HRQOL domains for patients with type I and type II diabetes were identified. A draft questionnaire was developed by including validated, widely used generic and diabetes-specific domains and by developing original questions as required.
Objective: To compare health-related quality of life (HRQOL) in patients with diabetes receiving insulin lispro with patients receiving regular human insulin (Humulin R).
Research Design And Methods: We performed two randomized comparative studies over a 6-month period (3 months per treatment). Primary analyses used crossover baseline to 3-month changes in HRQOL scores.
In a randomized 6-week trial comparing fluoxetine with placebo, the Medical Outcomes Study 36-Item Short-Form Health Status Survey (SF-36) scales were used to measure the effects of treatment on functional health and well-being among elderly (age > or = 60 years) outpatients with major depression. In the fluoxetine and placebo groups, 261 and 271 patients, respectively, completed the SF-36 before treatment and at Weeks 3 and 6. Compared with national norms for individuals over age 60, study patients before treatment exhibited baseline decrements on the following SF-36 scales: mental health, role limitations due to emotional problems, social functioning, vitality, role limitations due to physical problems, and bodily pain.
