Article Synopsis
  • This study compared two treatment regimens for adults with Philadelphia chromosome-positive acute lymphoblastic leukemia (Ph+ ALL): high-dose imatinib with reduced-intensity chemotherapy (arm A) versus standard imatinib/hyperCVAD therapy (arm B) in 268 patients.
  • The results showed a higher complete remission rate in arm A (98%) compared to arm B (91%), but similar major molecular response rates (66% vs 64%) after two treatment cycles.
  • Long-term follow-up indicated that while event-free survival and overall survival rates were similar between the two arms, allogeneic stem cell transplantation significantly improved relapse-free survival and overall survival, highlighting its value as a treatment option.

Selectins and their ligand P-selectin glycoprotein ligand-1 (PSGL-1) mediate leukocyte rolling along inflamed vessels. Cell rolling is modulated by selectin interactions with their ligands and by topographic requirements including L-selectin and PSGL-1 clustering on tips of leukocyte microvilli. Lipid rafts are cell membrane microdomains reported to function as signaling platforms.
