A chemical modification of a peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor pan agonist produced a shift to a new dual alpha/gamma partial agonist endowed with mitochondrial pyruvate carrier inhibition and antidiabetic properties.

New analogs of the PPAR pan agonist AL29-26 encompassed ligand (S)-7 showing potent activation of PPARα and -γ subtypes as a partial agonist. In vitro experiments and docking studies in the presence of PPAR antagonists were performed to help interpretation of biological data and investigate the main interactions at the binding sites. Further in vitro experiments showed that (S)-7 induced anti-steatotic effects and enhancement of the glucose uptake.

Antibiotic resistance determinants among carbapenemase producing bacteria isolated from wastewaters of Kathmandu, Nepal.

The emergence of carbapenem resistant bacteria (CRB) possesses a remarkable threat to the health of humans. CRB and carbapenem resistance genes (CRGs) have frequently been reported in clinical isolates from hospitals, however, their occurrence and distribution in wastewaters from various sources and river water have not been emphasized in Nepal. So, this study aimed to detect carbapenem resistant bacterial isolates and their resistance determinants in river water and different types of wastewaters.

Parry Romberg Syndrome: Literature Review and Report of Three Cases.

Parry Romberg Syndrome or Progressive Hemifacial Atrophy is a rare disease usually affecting one side of face with loss of soft and hard tissues. The disease appears suddenly and is usually self-limiting in 2-10 years time. The loss of soft and hard tissue leads to aesthetic and functional deficits which are compounded by the presence of associated symptoms like neuralgia, migraine, epilepsy and ocular involvement.
