Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death worldwide and is on the rise. Diet is considered to be a key modifiable risk factor for reducing the incidence of cardiovascular disease. Dietary approaches have proved advantageous for preventing disease morbidity and mortality but tend to focus on fruit, vegetables, fiber, lean protein and healthy fats.

Dynamic Testing of Materials for Galvanising Pot Roll Bearings with Improved Performance.

Galvanising pot roll bearings are subjected to severe deterioration due to the corrosion of the bearing materials in liquid Zn, resulting in maintenance stops that can cost thousands of pounds per hour in downtime. Dynamic wear testing in molten Zn-Al and Zn-Al-Mg was conducted to assess the corrosion and wear resistance of three material pairs using a bespoke testing rig. The materials investigated in this study were Wallex6 coated with WC-Co, stainless steel 316L coated with AlO, and as-received Wallex6 and Wallex4 alloys.

Performance of clinical decision aids (CDA) for the care of young febrile infants: a multicentre prospective cohort study conducted in the UK and Ireland.

Background: Between 1% and 4% of febrile infants, aged from birth to 90 days of age, presenting to hospital will be diagnosed with an invasive bacterial infection (IBI). Traditional teaching has advocated a treat all approach but more recently a number of clinical decision aids (CDA) have been developed to classify febrile infants into lower and higher risk cohorts, with lower risk infants suitable for management without immediate parenteral antibiotics and lumbar puncture. The aim of this study was to apply these CDA to a UK and Irish cohort.

Ethics of artificial intelligence in embryo assessment: mapping the terrain.

Artificial intelligence (AI) has the potential to standardize and automate important aspects of fertility treatment, improving clinical outcomes. One promising application of AI in the fertility clinic is the use of machine learning (ML) tools to assess embryos for transfer. The successful clinical implementation of these tools in ways that do not erode consumer trust requires an awareness of the ethical issues that these technologies raise, and the development of strategies to manage any ethical concerns.
