How effective is biological activated carbon in removing micropollutants? A comprehensive review.

Micropollutants (MPs), also called emerging contaminants, are detected in various environmental compartments. Wastewater is their main entry pathway due to the incomplete removal of MPs in wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs). These contaminants are a risk to human health and the integrity of the ecosystem because they are persistent and toxic to organisms.

International publication activity in orthopaedic surgery over a ten-year interval.

Purpose: International English language publication activities in orthopaedic surgery comparing the years 2008/09 to 2018/19 were analyzed.

Methods: 20 international journals listed on PubMed were examined. The impact factor (IF) for each journal was determined using the InCites Journal Citation Report.

Attitudes, Beliefs, Barriers, and Facilitators of Emergency Department Nurses Toward Patients with Opioid Use Disorder and Naloxone Distribution.

Introduction: As opioid overdose deaths continue to rise, the emergency department (ED) remains an important point of contact for many at risk for overdose. In this study our purpose was to better understand the attitudes, beliefs, and knowledge of ED nurses in caring for patients with opioid use disorder (OUD). We hypothesized a difference in training received and attitudes toward caring for patients with OUD between nurses with <5 years and ≥6 years of clinical experience.

Considering planetary health in health guidelines and health technology assessments: a scoping review protocol.

Background: This protocol outlines a scoping review with the objective of identifying and exploring planetary health considerations within existing health guidelines and health technology assessments (HTA). The insights gained from this review will serve as a basis for shaping future Grading of Recommendations, Assessment, Development, and Evaluations (GRADE) guidance on planetary health.

Methods: We will adhere to the JBI methodology for scoping reviews.

Inhibitory impact of the anticancer drug doxorubicin on anaerobic microbial community.

The inhibitory effect of the anticancer drug doxorubicin (DOX) on biogas production was evaluated in short-term and long-term exposure assays. The short-term assays reached the DOX IC value on 648 ± 50 µg·L. In addition, it was found that inhibition caused by the exposure of 10×10 µg·L was reversible after removing DOX from the feeding synthetic medium.
