Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD)-associated fibrosis causes significant morbidity. Mechanisms are poorly understood but implicate the microbiota, especially adherent-invasive Escherichia coli (AIEC). This pleiotropy may be harnessed to identify unique genetically-informed parcellations of the cortex that are neurobiologically distinct from functional, cytoarchitectural, or other cortical parcellation schemes. We investigated genetic pleiotropy by applying genomic structural equation modeling (SEM) to map the genetic architecture of cortical surface area (SA) and cortical thickness (CT) for 34 brain regions recently reported in the ENIGMA cortical GWAS.

- This narrative review aims to tackle key methodological challenges in rsfMRI research for TBI by providing recommendations for data acquisition, processing, and analysis to enhance the reliability and comparability of study results.
- The review consists of a literature search on current rsfMRI studies, a set of seven recommendations for improving research practices, and a discussion of future research directions to promote rigorous methods and transparency in the TBI research community.
