Binocular vision and motion-in-depth.

When an object moves in three dimensions, the two eyes' views of the world deliver slightly different information to the visual system, providing binocular cues to depth and motion-in-depth. This short review describes the two main sources of binocular information, namely, changing disparity over time and interocular velocity differences; this could be used for the perception of motion-in-depth. We discuss the evidence obtained in recent years on the extent to which each of them is used in human vision.

Local excision without radiation for high-grade soft-tissue sarcoma of the extremity and superficial trunk.

Purpose. Limb-sparing surgery combined with radiation treatment has become the accepted treatment for patients with high-grade soft-tissue sarcoma. Adjuvant radiation was not routinely used at this institution for patients with clear margins after surgery.

Short versus long duration infusions of paclitaxel for any adenocarcinoma.

Background: Paclitaxel has become a standard drug used in a number of common cancers. At first long infusions were used to reduce the rate of inflow of the drug and as a result reduce the occurrence of hypersensitivity types of allergic reactions. Trials with shorter durations of infusion, and using a cocktail of anti-allergic drugs to prevent hypersensitivity reactions, some randomised, were begun.

Randomized phase III trial of single versus fractionated thoracic radiation in the palliation of patients with lung cancer (NCIC CTG SC.15).

Purpose: This multi-institutional Phase III randomized study compared 10 Gy single-fraction radiotherapy (RT) with 20 Gy in five fractions in the palliation of thoracic symptoms from lung cancer.

Methods And Materials: The primary end point was palliation of thoracic symptoms at 1 month after RT, evaluated by a patient-completed daily diary card. Secondary end points included quality of life, toxicity, and survival.
