  • The text discusses the whole-genome sequences of 16 bacteria found in commercial cucumber fermentations.
  • This includes nine beneficial lactic acid bacteria involved in fermentation and two that are associated with spoilage.

Background: Interactive teaching methods such as patient narratives and role plays are effective tools in medical education. Incorporating the patient's perspective of the disease and standardized treatment in the teaching process helps the students become more empathetic and have better doctor-patient communication.

Methods: An interactive module was conducted using role plays and patient narratives to teach communication skills and doctor-patient relationships to randomly chosen Seventy-seven final-year(4th year) medical students to address the various psychosocial problems faced by the patients with breast cancer.

Background: Stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) is highly effective as focal treatment for brain metastases (BrMs), but whether it can promote anti-tumour immune responses that synergise with immunotherapy remains unclear. We investigated this by examining blood samples from a clinical trial for HER2-amplified breast cancer (HER2-BC) BrMs, matched with longitudinal HER2-BC BrM samples resected from the same location in the same patient.

Methods: Blood samples from 10 patients taken pre- and 7-14 days post-SRS were analysed by mass and flow cytometry.

Article Synopsis
  • Diabetes mellitus affects 537 million adults globally, and the study investigates the role of adropin in the endocrine pancreas of diabetic rats.
  • Researchers used immunohistochemistry to identify adropin localization and measured hormone levels impacted by adropin treatment, including insulin, glucagon, and others.
  • Results showed that adropin reduced glucagon secretion from alpha cells and increased levels of GLP-1 and amylin, suggesting adropin may help regulate glucagon levels in diabetes models.

Unlabelled: The use of acid suppression therapy (AST) is a common approach for managing a wide spectrum of acid peptic disorders. Histamine type 2-receptor antagonists (H2RAs) and proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) are the most widely prescribed AST in routine clinical practice. However, an exponential surge in the prescriptions of PPIs, such as Omeprazole, Esomeprazole, Pantoprazole, Lansoprazole in recent years and their associated adverse effects have raised concern about their inappropriate and overuse, both in children and adults.
