Article Synopsis
  • The study examined how common neuromuscular complications are after lung transplantation (LT) and what risk factors contribute to them, particularly focusing on patients who received extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) support.
  • Researchers analyzed 201 LT patients from 2013 to 2020, categorizing them into groups based on the type and severity of leg weakness they experienced post-surgery.
  • Results showed over 20% of patients had leg weakness, with specific risk factors identified, such as preoperative ECMO use for asymmetric weakness and age, diabetes, and other medical conditions for symmetric weakness, indicating a need for early diagnosis and intervention.
