Introduction: The diversity of the United States population has increased drastically, yet minority enrollment in healthcare schools continues to be low. The annual Healthcare Diversity Summer Camp for underserved minority high school students with an interest in a future healthcare career was created to expose students to pharmacy, nursing, and dental medicine.
Methods: Camp participants completed pre- and post-surveys before and after attending the summer camp over four years to assess students' knowledge and confidence in pursuing a career in the healthcare field.

The aim of this systematic review and network meta-analysis is to evaluate the comparative effectiveness of N95, surgical/medical and non-medical facemasks as personal protective equipment against respiratory virus infection. The study incorporated 35 published and unpublished randomized controlled trials and observational studies investigating specific mask effectiveness against influenza virus, SARS-CoV, MERS-CoV and SARS-CoV-2. We searched PubMed, Google Scholar and medRxiv databases for studies published up to 5 February 2021 (PROSPERO registration: CRD42020214729).

Purpose Of Review: Herein, we provide a critical review of the clinical and translational research examining the relationship between viral and bacterial pathogens and Alzheimer's disease. In addition, we provide an overview of the biological pathways through which chronic infection may contribute to Alzheimer's disease.
Recent Findings: Dementia due to Alzheimer's disease is a leading cause of disability among older adults in developed countries, yet knowledge of the causative factors that promote Alzheimer's disease pathogenesis remains incomplete.
Despite considerable evidence linking alcohol use and intimate partner aggression among mixed-sex couples, scant research has examined this association in same-sex couples using a dyadic framework. The aim of the present study was to examine associations between one's own and their partner's alcohol use (i.e.

Thus, the aim of the present study was to investigate the association between sleep duration and sarcopenia among adults aged ≥ 65 years from five LMICs (China, Ghana, India, Russia, South Africa).
Methods: Cross-sectional, community-based data from the WHO study on global ageing and adult health (SAGE) were analysed.
Purpose: DNA-dependent protein kinase catalytic subunit (DNA-PKcs, herein referred as DNA-PK) is a multifunctional kinase of high cancer relevance. DNA-PK is deregulated in multiple tumor types, including prostate cancer, and is associated with poor outcomes. DNA-PK was previously nominated as a therapeutic target and DNA-PK inhibitors are currently undergoing clinical investigation.

Objective evidence that these rotations provide enhanced subspecialty specific knowledge is lacking. The purpose of this study was to determine whether exposure to an endocrinology subspecialty rotation enhanced a resident's endocrinology-specific knowledge beyond that otherwise acquired during IM residency.

LNK is a member of the SH2B family of adaptor proteins and is a non-redundant regulator of cytokine signalling. Cytokines are secreted intercellular messengers that bind to specific receptors on the surface of target cells to activate the Janus Kinase-Signal Transducer and Activator of Transcription (JAK-STAT) signalling pathway. Activation of the JAK-STAT pathway leads to proliferative and often inflammatory effects, and so the amplitude and duration of signalling are tightly controlled.

Globally, healthcare systems have been pushed to the breaking point. The demands for public health and community-based care - traditionally underfunded - have escalated. Necessity expedited the use of technology for virtual care delivery within the Canadian healthcare system and in post-secondary education, overcoming years of resistance.

However, prostate cancer cells inevitably adapt, resulting in disease relapse with incurable castrate-resistant prostate cancer. Androgen deprivation therapy has many side effects, including hypercholesterolemia, and more aggressive and castrate-resistant prostate cancers typically feature cellular accumulation of cholesterol stored in the form of cholesteryl esters.

The classroom strategies reported in the literature for incorporating HDCC into the PharmD curriculum involved teaching a single course or series of courses in HDCC. Activities found to be effective in teaching HDCC were those that involved case-based and community engagement exercises.

Aims: Heart failure (HF) is a leading cause of death. Early intervention is the key to reduce HF-related morbidity and mortality. This study assesses the utility of electrocardiograms (ECGs) in HF risk prediction.

However, no studies on this topic exist from low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). Thus, we investigated the association between sleep problems and SCC in a large sample of middle-age and older adults from 45 LMICs.

COVID-19 infection has been directly related to the development of acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) and severe infections could lead to admission to intensive care and increased risk of death. The use of clinical data in machine learning models available at time of admission to ED can be used to assess possible risk of ARDS, the need for intensive care (admission to the Intensive Care Unit; ICU) as well as risk of mortality.

Objective: The aim of the present study was to investigate the association between body mass index (BMI) status with mild cognitive impairment (MCI) (a preclinical stage of dementia) in middle-aged and older adults residing in six low- and middle-income countries using nationally representative data.
Methods: Cross-sectional data from the Study on Global Ageing and Adult Health (SAGE) were analyzed.
Background & Aims: Cancer-associated fibroblasts (CAFs) play an important role in colorectal cancer (CRC) progression and predict poor prognosis in CRC patients. However, the cellular origins of CAFs remain unknown, making it challenging to therapeutically target these cells. Here, we aimed to identify the origins and contribution of colorectal CAFs associated with poor prognosis.

Adult CD-1 male mice (F0) were exposed to air (control) or 200 mg of vaporized cannabis plant matter 3×/day over a 10-day period. Subsequently, F0 males were bred with drug-naïve CD-1 females to generate F1 males, and F1 offspring were used to generate F2 males.

No interventions have consistently demonstrated improvements to people with dementia's life quality, functioning, or other indices of living as well as possible with dementia. We have co-produced, with health and social care professionals and family carers of people with dementia, a new intervention (NIDUS-family).

Building on these findings, we examine how perceptions of responsibility affect responses to witnessing victimization in the online realm-a topic that has received limited attention. Using a maximum-likelihood selection model, we analyze data from the Pew American Trends Panel ( = 3709) to estimate the effects of respondents' perceptions of the role different groups should play in addressing online harassment on their likelihood to engage in intervention, target hardening, or inaction in response to witnessing online harassment, conditioned upon their likelihood of having witnessed such behavior.
