Calmodulinopathies are caused by mutations in calmodulin (CaM), and result in debilitating cardiac arrythmias such as long-QT syndrome (LQTS) and catecholaminergic polymorphic ventricular tachycardia (CPVT). In addition, many patients exhibit neurological comorbidities, including developmental delay and autism spectrum disorder. Until now, most work into these mutations has focused on cardiac effects, identifying impairment of Ca /CaM-dependent inactivation (CDI) of Ca 1.

Missense variants in genes encoding the Ca-binding protein calmodulin (CaM) cause severe cardiac arrhythmias. The disease mechanisms have been attributed to dysregulation of RyR2, for Catecholaminergic Polymorphic Ventricular Tachycardia (CPVT) and/or Ca1.2, for Long-QT Syndrome (LQTS).

In humans, mutations in calmodulin cause cardiac arrhythmia. These mutations disrupt the ability of calmodulin to sense calcium concentrations and correctly regulate two central calcium channels, together obstructing heart rhythm. This correlation is well established, but also surprising since calmodulin is expressed in all tissues and interacts with hundreds of proteins.

Inflammation is the supreme biological response to illness. In the Hauts-Bassins region, in traditional medicine, all parts of and are used to treat hepatitis and inflammation. The aim of this study was to evaluate the in vitro antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities of their aqueous extracts.

This study investigated the phytochemical content of alcoholic extracts and essential oil of a new variety of medicinal plants, Agastache foeniculum (Pursh), which Kuntze adapted for cultivation in Romania, namely “Aromat de Buzău”. The essential oil was investigated by GC-MS, while the identification and quantification of various compounds from alcoholic extracts were performed by HPLC-DAD. The total phenol and flavonoid contents of the extracts were evaluated by using standard phytochemical methods.

Cucurbitaceae is a family of health-promoting plants due to their compounds with beneficial effects. The aim of this study was to analyze, for the first time, the chemical composition, the antioxidant activity and the metal chelating properties of fruit juices obtained from four different species of the Cucurbitaceae family cultivated in Romania, namely , , and . The samples of juice were analyzed by high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and all the four species displayed high levels of the two triterpenes, oleanolic and ursolic acids, and also in phenolic compounds, including catechin, (-)-epicatechin and gallic acid.

Anemia is common in the elderly, especially in very old patients who are often frail and may be institutionalized. Senescence, the ageing process, puts the elderly at risk of developing anemia for multiple reasons, but anemia may not be attributed to senescence unless a thorough diagnostic workup has excluded other etiologies. Nutritional deficiencies are common and need to be identified and treated appropriately.

The adsorption of organic ionic dyes on different pore size engineered silica materials with potential application for industrial wastewater treatment has been investigated using Fourier transform laser microprobe mass spectrometry (FT-LMMS) and time-of-flight secondary ion mass spectrometry (TOF-S-SIMS). The complementary use of the two methods with different information depth allowed data on the subsurface distribution and pore penetration of the adsorbed organic compounds. Macroscopic methods were employed to determine the amount adsorbed on the particles and the specific external surface area.

By the ligation of left vertebral artery in some white, adult WISTAR rats, of 150-200 g, anaesthetized with ether, a cerebral hypoxia of 10 minutes was induced. After beheading, there was determined the level of SH-neproteic groups and glutathione (GSH) in the whole heparinized blood and there was observed an important decrease with -15.88% and -16.

Eight male volunteers, all alcohol addicts selected from the patients of the Pădureni unit, deprived for a minimum of two weeks of alcohol, but with an at least 2-year history of alcohol addiction, received 0.5 ml absolute alcohol/kg body weight. Following dynamically the alteration of plasma reduced glutathione content, a significant increase (+8.
