We describe the development of a unified synthetic strategy for the preparation of all known 5/5-spirocyclic spiroindimicin (SPM) alkaloids, namely spiroindimicins B-G. The present synthetic route relies on four fundamental transformations: Grignard-based fragment coupling between halogenated pyrrolemetal and isatin partners, Suzuki coupling to generate a triaryl scaffold encompassing all requisite skeletal atoms of the natural products, Lewis acid-mediated spirocyclization to construct the 5/5-spirocyclic core, and chemoselective lactam reduction. The developed syntheses are step-economic (6-7 steps from commercial materials), scalable, and amenable to analogue synthesis.

This study aimed to describe the acceptability of using a digital intervention to increase information access for PWDUD in Tanga region, Tanzania. This study was conducted among 465 participants in Tanga, a coastal region on the Northeast of Tanzania has the second highest number of PWDUD in Tanzania.

High Prevalence of Energy and Nutrients Inadequacy among Brazilian Older Adults.

Poor nutrition increases the risk of diseases and adverse health outcomes in older adults. We evaluated the potential inadequacy of nutrient intake among older adults in Brazil and its association with body anthropometry and composition outcomes. Dietary intake was obtained from 295 community-living older adults (>60 years old), of both genders, using a seven-day food record.

Smoking Intensity Increases Diaphragm Muscle Injury: A Clinicopathologic Study.

Background: Studying the effects of smoking intensity is important to evaluate the risk of tobacco use on a range of illnesses, such as as sarcopenia among the elderly. Thus, this study aimed to analyze the effects of pack-years of cigarette smoking on the diaphragm muscle (DIAm) histopathology of postmortem samples.

Methods: Subjects were divided into three groups: never-smoker ( = 46); less than 30 pack-years of smoking ( = 12); and more than 30 pack-years of smoking ( = 30).

We aimed to evaluate electrocardiogram (ECG)-gated MR angiography (MRA) in the follow-up after surgery involving the ascending aorta regarding technical feasibility, image quality, spectrum of findings, and their implications for clinical management. We retrospectively analyzed a cohort of 19 patients (median age 59 years, range 38-79 years), who underwent MRA for follow-up imaging after surgery involving the ascending aorta. Refugees and other displaced persons are exposed to many risk factors for unhealthy alcohol and other drug (AOD) use and concomitant mental health problems. Evidence-based services for AOD use and mental health comorbidities are rarely available in humanitarian settings. In high income countries, screening, brief intervention and referral to treatment (SBIRT) systems can provide appropriate care for AOD use but have rarely been used in low- and middle-income countries and to our knowledge never tested in a humanitarian setting.
