We demonstrate that melanoma cells can form and maintain cellular memories during the acquisition of therapy resistance that exhibit characteristics of cellular learning and are dependent on the transcription factor AP-1. We show that cells exposed to a low dose of therapy adapt to become resistant to a high dose, demonstrating that resistance was not purely selective.

Recent experience with other agricultural technologies-such as plant genetic engineering-shows that public perceptions can influence the pace and direction of innovation, so understanding perceptions and how they are formed is important. Here, we use representative data from an online survey (n = 2269) to analyze public attitudes towards crop farming robots in Germany-a country where new farming technologies are sometimes seen with skepticism.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFBackground: Artificial intelligence (AI)-powered digital therapies that detect methamphetamine cravings via consumer devices have the potential to reduce health care disparities by providing remote and accessible care solutions to communities with limited care solutions, such as Native Hawaiian, Filipino, and Pacific Islander communities. However, Native Hawaiian, Filipino, and Pacific Islander communities are understudied with respect to digital therapeutics and AI health sensing despite using technology at the same rates as other racial groups.
Objective: In this study, we aimed to understand the feasibility of continuous remote digital monitoring and ecological momentary assessments in Native Hawaiian, Filipino, and Pacific Islander communities in Hawaii by curating a novel data set of longitudinal Fitbit (Fitbit Inc) biosignals with the corresponding craving and substance use labels.
In Germany (and other Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development countries), the need for a fundamental transformation of livestock farming has become increasingly evident in recent years. Two broad-based stakeholder commissions including the German farmers' association, the meat industry, and Non-Governmental Organizations have endorsed this demand. Nevertheless, major steps towards its implementation are still missing - a circumstance we refer to in this paper as the implementation dilemma.

Molecular differences in rare individual cells in the initial population enable certain cells to become resistant to therapy; however, comparatively little is known about the variability in the resistance outcomes. The aim of this study is to validate for the first time a Spanish version of a new tool for assessing the professional performance of residents by nurses newly developed in the Ottawa Hospital (O-RON).
Materials And Methods: After the author's written authorization, the original O-RON form was translated and cross-culturally adapted.
In recent years, intensive pig husbandry has been subject to increasing public criticism, including a clear demand for more animal-friendly housing systems in many countries. However, such systems are associated with trade-offs at the expense of other sustainability domains, which challenges implementation and makes prioritization necessary. However, treatment is often complicated by a unique profile of unpredictable neurotoxic adverse effects of varying degrees known as immune effector cell-associated neurotoxicity syndrome (ICANS). We describe the 5-year outcomes for children with PBB to ascertain the presence of chronic respiratory disease (bronchiectasis, recurrent PBB and asthma) and identify the risk factors for these.
Methods: Prospective cohort study was undertaken at the Queensland Children's Hospital, Brisbane, Australia, of 166 children with PBB and 28 controls (undergoing bronchoscopy for symptoms other than chronic wet cough).
Background: Bronchiectasis in children is an important, but under-researched, chronic pulmonary disorder that has negative impacts on health-related quality of life. Despite this, it does not receive the same attention as other chronic pulmonary conditions in children such as cystic fibrosis. We measured health resource use and health-related quality of life over a 12-month period in children with bronchiectasis.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFAims: Despite the critical status of obesity as an epidemic chronic illness in the United States contributing toward diabetic and cardiovascular disease as well as early preventable death, treatment approaches in primary care remain in conflict; providers lack evidence-based guidelines toward impactful disease management, particularly from dietary approaches. This study aimed to evaluate the impact of initiation of a 5-10% low-carbohydrate, 75-85% high-fat diet on specific clinical indicators of obesity, a metabolic disease associated with increased morbidity and mortality, at baseline and six months in an adult population.
Materials And Methods: Utilizing a retrospective electronic medical record data collection protocol, one hundred patients with obesity in a wellness clinic in the Southwestern United States between 2017 and 2018 prescribed a low-carbohydrate, high-fat diet were selected via simple random sampling.
Pictures of farm animals and their husbandry systems are frequently presented in the media and are mostly connected to discussions surrounding farm animal welfare. How such pictures are perceived by the broader public is not fully understood thus far. It is presumable that the animals' expressions and body languages as well as their depicted environment or husbandry systems affect public perception.
